The story actually gets worse, but I didn't want it to become a sad-story. The rest of the story would include the time, later on in the season, when I actually made a basket during a game that counted... and our team (aside from me) was so good, we went to the State Playoffs and won. Our next step was to go play the national playoffs for our age group, but my coach cut me from the team because "We just couldn't afford tickets to Orlando for everyone." I found out later that my spot was filled by another kid and I gave up on sports almost entirely. My parents worked so much that they payed little attention to this.

It was a horrible feeling- rejection from your peers and your mentors. But I wound up being a very good swimmer and later... I discovered that when the guys were off playing games... there were girls.

Scott,

Damn those back yard chores. I have to clean and paint my deck this summer also, in front and back. And the damn thing is HUGE! And it turns out, my wife, like yours, really is not hip to the "burn it down" strategy. Is this some sort of wifely conspiracy?

I also have to fix the gate to the back yard. A giant windstorm knocked it out of alignment and now I have to take it all apart and put it back together. Home ownership is so much fun.

Well, I had better head off to the hardware store to get deck cleaner, paint, sealer, etc., as well as supplies for gate repair. This is going to be a blast!

You're just adding to the racist problem of our society and fallowing whatever you hear blindly. I'm a white guy, but more importantly I'm also a human. I have nice tight dreads and they are just as clean as your hair. I wash them every other day thoroughly, keep them moisturized and keep them rolled. And just because someone has dreads doesn't mean they smoke cannabis or have any connections to rastafarianism. Germanic tribes in BC times are documented to have had dreads, thousands of years before documented rastafarianism. A hairstyle is a hairstyle, you just have a bad case of conformiosis with a side of arrogance and an overly judgmental attitude.
